Phil and Kirstie favourites to join Great British Bake Off

first_imgSpeculation is growing that the UK’s most famous property personalities Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer stand a good chance of being the next presenters of BBC flagship programme The Great British Bake Off.After Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc announced they were to leave the show, along with Mary Berry, the hunt has been on for a new duo to front the programme. But although stars such as Jennifer Saunders, Davina McColl, Clare Balding, Geri Halliwell and Masterchef winner Lisa Faulkner have been in the frame, Kirstie and Spencer are now one of the betting favourites, placed third most likely at 7-1 by Betway. On Saturday it was revealed by Channel 4 that Phil and Kirstie, who are still contracted to the channel and continue to make Location, Location, Location and other series, had met the channel’s bosses to discuss a potential move from property to property tea.The duo are reported to have told bosses they are the “perfect fit” and a Channel 4 spokesperson told the Daily Mirror that “they poke fun at each other and are not afraid to go along with innuendos [and] they can match, if not better, Mel and Sue”.Other advantages of Phil and Kirstie are that she is an experienced cook and baker. But otherwise the two have more property credentials than baking ones – Phil used to own and run home finding company Garrington before TV beckoned while Kirstie played a key role in campaigning to end HIPs and was even tipped to be a future housing minister in the new Conservative government.Kirstie Allsopp Great British Bake Off Phil Spencer Channel 4 October 3, 2016Nigel LewisOne commentSheila Manchester, The Negotiator The Negotiator 3rd October 2016 at 11:47 amPhil Spencer for Housing Minister???? Edu, the club’s technical director, has taken on added responsibility in helping Arteta accelerate his rebuilding job following the departure of Raul Sanllehi earlier this month and the former Arsenal midfielder played a crucial role in the signing of his club’s latest recruit.AdvertisementAdvertisementADVERTISEMENT‘[Edu and I] had several chats about Arsenal and the new project, we had many good conversations,’ Gabriel told Arsenal Digital. Benitez silent over Anfield return

first_imgRafael Benitez is focused only on the immediate future and not his past with Liverpool as he prepares to take his Chelsea side to Anfield in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday. Benitez is expected to receive a warm welcome on Sunday. He spent six years at Anfield, helping Liverpool to the 2005 Champions League in his first season, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and European Super Cup, while the Reds finished second in the Premier League in 2008-09. His family home remains on Merseyside and he supports the campaigners in their fight for justice for the 96 supporters killed at Hillsborough in 1989. His is a lasting bond with Liverpool, but Benitez’s aim is to defeat his former club. “I’m a professional and I am committed with Chelsea until the end of the season, to win, to achieve our targets,” said Benitez, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign. “I was there for six years, winning a lot of things together. They (Liverpool supporters) will appreciate that, but at the same time they will try to support their team and they will understand that I have to try to do my best and win.” Benitez recently was quoted as saying he wanted to return “home” to Liverpool and that his wish was to move to a top club, possibly in England next season. That was interpreted by some as a possible return to Liverpool, but Benitez meant his family home. For reasons of clarity, the Spaniard declined the opportunity to appraise Reds incumbent Brendan Rodgers. “I have a lot of respect for Liverpool Football Club and all their managers,” he said. “What I said clearly is Liverpool is my home, my family is living there and because I don’t want any misunderstanding, I will not talk about the club, the position or the manager’s position or whatever. My family’s there, it’s my home.” The Spaniard has declined to assess Liverpool since his departure in June 2010 or to talk about events at Anfield ahead of his first return as an opposing manager. “I have a lot of respect, but I have to concentrate on my team,” Benitez said. “I don’t want any misunderstanding, so I will concentrate just on Chelsea and the game and try to enjoy it, especially if we can win.” center_img Press Associationlast_img read more
