IIM-Shillong has been asked to draft Meghalaya Sports Policy:

first_imgMinShillong, Mar 16 (PTI) Meghalaya, which has officially bid to host the 2022 National Games, found itself in a soup today after the state Sports and Youth Affairs minister Zenith Sangma said the state sports policy is outsourced to a third party and is in a drafting stage.IIM-Shillong has been roped in at a cost of Rs 21 lakh to help the state sports department draft the sports policy, the outline of which was already submitted, Zenith told the Assembly today.”The outline of the State Sports Policy has been submitted by the IIM to the department and the department has to give its views before re-submitting it to the IIM,” he said.According to the minister, IIM-Shillong was approached to assist the state government in framing the state sports policy after it failed in its two attempts in 2008 and 2014.On being asked on the expenditure incurred in engaging the IIM-Shillong to draft the policy, he said “The expenditure incurred for engaging IIM to frame the policy is Rs 21 lakh.”On being asked for the delay, the minister said even different sports associations which were consulted for their views, never came back which has led to the failure in framing of the policy.
