FRISCO, Texas – Lamar guard Nick Garth is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.The Houston, Texas native recorded a pair of 20-point performances as the Cardinals extended their win streak to three games with a 75-70 victory over Northwestern State and a 75-72 upset of conference-leading Sam Houston State, the Bearkats first loss in league play (12-1).Garth and the Cardinals hit the road for a pair of conference matchups against Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday and against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Nick Garth, Lamar – Senior – Guard – Houston, TexasGarth accounted for Lamar’s last seven points as he hit all four free-throws in the final seconds to fend off previously undefeated Sam Houston and finish with 21 points. He converted all nine attempts from the charity stripe against the Bearkats and made both of his free throws against Northwestern State to finish a perfect 11-for-11 on the week.Garth provided a clutch play down the stretch against Sam Houston State, draining a three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining after the Bearkats’ Marcus Harris had hit from beyond the arc to pull within one.Garth shot 9-of-15 (.600) from the field, including 3-of-6 from long range, against Northwestern State to finish with 23 points for the second-straight game.
