Va’a Challenge sees increase of participants

first_imgMore than five teams competed in a heat before qualifying in the finals.The three categories in the challenge were “Open Men”, which comprised of 5 males, “Open Women”, comprising of 5 females and the “Open Mixed”, which comprised of two females and 3 males.The finalist for the “Open Men” challenge was the NCSL Nitro with a timing of 1.11 minutes and the runner ups being Yatchie Hobie Cats followed by NDB Gold Men’s.For the “Open Women” finalists, it was the Yatchie Marlins with a timing of 1.36 minutes and the AON Empower 1 and Yatchie Kiduruis as runner ups.The “Mixed Open” finalist had My Haus 2 with a timing of 1.23 minutes and Yatchie MacDhuis and Consort Corsairs as runner ups.President of the Konedobu Kanu Klab, Melissa Kivung says the challenge started back in 2008 but hasn’t had much coverage.Kivung adds that it is a new sport to the general public so for them it’s something to try out and experience and it is also good for both fitness and health.The challenge is held twice every year and this is the first challenge for this year.She adds that the second event will be held in October and whoever is interested is more than welcome to come down and give the sport a go.She says so far, the turnout for this year’s challenge has been successful and looks forward to more that will be joining in later this year in October.Potential paddlers are also encouraged to come along and join in on the fun.last_img
