Residents ‘Construct’ Road with Hands in Buchanan

first_imgResidents of Harmonsville Township in Neekren Statutory District #5 in Grand Bassa County are constructing a 10-mile road with their bare hands. The residents, according to our correspondent, are implementing the project in the absence of government budgetary allotment for road construction in the district. The Commissioner of the township, Lawrence McCauley, told the Daily Observer at the project site that when completed, the road will link the district to Menneh and Barchue towns. While the road work was ongoing, Commissioner McCauley said the residents were also prepared to construct wooden bridges over five creeks along the route. He believes that when the road construction is completed, it will allow the inhabitants to have easy access to the township, as well as increase trade and commerce in the district.“This stretch of road, when completed, will be accessible to vehicles that will transport goods and services to faraway market places and also improve the locals’ social activities and living standards,” Commissioner McCauley said. For his part, Neekren Statutory District Superintendent, Josiah Jacobs, has lauded the residents’ initiative, and has therefore promised to assist.Commissioner McCauley has meanwhile appealed to the county leadership, all goodwill citizens and the many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the district to help the residents with at least L$150,000 to purchase food and other working implements for the workers to complete the exercise.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgBrazilian striker Marcelinho starred in the night with a hat-trick as Pune City FC thrashed NorhEast United FC 5-0 in their Indian Super League (ISL) encounter at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune on Saturday. It never looked like Pune missed their suspended coach Ranko Popovic as their players romped through the NorthEast squad.Marcelinho found the net thrice after Ashique Kuruniyan had opened the account in the 8th minute and Adil Khan joined the party late in the game. With the win, Pune took a giant leap in the league standings, moving to the second spot with 15 points from eight matches and are just a point behind league leaders Chennaiyin FC.On the other hand, NorthEast suffered their fourth straight defeat this season and sit just above Delhi Dynamos, who at the bottom of the table. The Highlanders have four points from seven matches and have not picked up a point since defeating Delhi Dynamos for their only win on December 2..@FCPuneCity put on a five-⭐ performance at home to trounce @NEUtdFC in a one-sided encounter!More videos: https://t.co/cVyUhTONeX#ISLRecap #LetsFootball #PUNNEU pic.twitter.com/aFt3rhFIAW- Indian Super League (@IndSuperLeague) December 30, 2017The contest was over inside the first 45 minutes when Pune City grabbed all the chances that came their way.The home side had three shots on target and all three of them ended up being goals. NorthEast United also had three shots on goal but none of them translated into a goal, showing why the visitors had a massive shortfall in the first half.advertisementIt were the visitors who had the first look at goal and should have been ahead but Marcinho shot straight into the goalkeeper after skipping past the midfield and defence. From the resultant counter-attack, Pune left NorthEast gasping with their pace as Jonathan Lucca made it all the way to the rival goal and cut it back for Emiliano Alfaro, whose shot took a deflection and fell kindly for Ashique who slotted it past the goalkeeper.Pune made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when last season’s highest goalscorer, Marcelinho, showed his class. The Brazilian won a free kick just outside the box after he was fouled by Rowllin Borges and then stepped up to majestically curl the ball past the wall and into the top corner of the net.Marcelinho scored his second at the stroke of half time and this time it was the goalkeeper TP Rehenesh who was to be blamed. Marcelinho picked up a ball from Lucca and faced goal from an acute angle. He still tried his luck with a powerful attempt which Rehenesh ended up diverting into the goal through his legs.Marcelinho completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute when Marcos Tebar found his captain inside the box and the Brazilian finished it off by beating Rehenesh at the near post. With two minutes left to be played, Adil scored his third goal of the league for Pune as he turned the ball home amidst tussle for the ball. This was the first time Pune scored five goals in a game but with Marcelinho striking form, this may not be the last.last_img read more
