Former Australian pacer Damien Fleming predicts that this summer’s Ashes series could turn out to be “Bodyline 2″ if the pace quartet of Steve Smith’s side fire against England’s top order, which according to him is fragile.England batsmen were found at sixes and seven against the South African quicks at Trent Bridge and Fleming believes the sight of England’s top order being unsettled by pace and bounce in Nottingham only added weight to the case of Australia unleashing a four-man pace attack this summer.”If the Poms are getting bounced out in their home conditions against that South African attack, our boys … have two or three yards (of pace) on the South Africans,” cricket.com.au quoted Fleming as saying.”And they’re going to get a lot more bounce out here. This could be Bodyline 2. I know there’s fielding restrictions so we can’t go full Bodyline from 1932-33.””But I’d say Darren Lehmann would have been looking at those highlights from (Trent Bridge) and the plan would be ‘don’t be pitching too many balls up to the English top order’,” he added.More than 80 years ago, the Bodyline series was an infamous edition of the Ashes series in Australian when England pacers Harold Larwood and Bill Voce secured a series win for the tourists with a sustained attack of short-pitched bowling to a strong leg-side field, which ultimately led to a change in the laws of the game. The top order of England for the first Test at The Gabba is far from settled with skipper Joe Root and Alastair Cook only looking confirmed for their spots in the top four.advertisementAfter the remaining two Tests against South Africa, England will face West Indies for the three-Test series before they finalise their squad for the Ashes. On the other hand, Australia’s only Test series between now and the opening Test of the Ashes 2017 will come in Bangladesh in August and September.

Just two years ago, Texas A&M’s sophomore phenom Kenny Hill was one of the biggest names in college football. Now, after sitting out for a season, the talented yet occasionally erratic signal caller leads a TCU team that is riding high following a 62-22 victory at Baylor.Hill is still a skilled quarterback, but his current numbers don’t come close to his production at A&M. This season, the junior has thrown for almost 2,700 yards and 14 touchdowns but has also thrown 10 interceptions. Here’s a quick analysis on the Horned Frogs’ starting QB.Hill has a rocket arm and frequently gives his receivers one-on-one opportunities down the field. He is also a gifted runner and has seven rushing touchdowns on the season. He is often used both in the read option game. And in the red zone on simple sprint zone plays like this one. When it comes to prototypes, Hill is the epitome of a gunslinger; he never plays conservatively. He is also a true dual-threat quarterback, and he uses his feet to extend plays and put pressure on the defense. Sometimes that produces some awe-inspiring plays. But Hill can occasionally get antsy in the pocket and make mistakes. And he has a tendency to stare down receivers. So why is this important? Well, as we’ve seen, Hill is a skilled passer when given time, and he has proven the ability to make plays and scramble outside of the pocket. But sometimes defensive pressure and his aggressive mentality lead him to make mistakes. If the Cowboys keep the same defensive philosophy that they’ve used in the past couple of games, Hill will just have to sit back and command an offensive system that is designed to pick apart soft zone defenses. If the Cowboys play aggressively, and they try to confuse and pressure Hill, they could effectively rattle the junior and end up forcing a turnover or two (which has happened a lot to TCU this year). How aggressive do you think OSU’s defensive game plan will be? The game-changing All-Big 12 tackle led the team in sacks (7) and tackles for loss (13). According to NFL.com, Taylor holds a 5.35 draft grade (the highest grade is Myles Garrett at 7.6) and is their 17th-ranked defensive tackle.Blake Jarwin is an intriguing tight end prospect who could find himself a spot on an NFL roster. The tight end has seen a resurgence in the NFL with the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce putting up gaudy numbers. Jarwin has a 5.36 draft grade according to NFL.com and is their 14th-ranked tight end.Jordan Sterns left OSU as the leading career tackler in the Mike Gundy era. He posted three 100-plus tackle seasons but will be missed as much for his leadership as his production. Sterns is a little undersized for an NFL safety which may lead into his 5.02 draft grade and No. 17 ranking among safety prospects. Like the others, he will have a chance to improve his stock with a good showing at the Combine. The Combine will be held February 28 – March 6, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Brandon Weeden recently made it back for an Oklahoma State spring practice, and he talked about the team and his time there in an interview with Allison Gappa.“I’m impressed,” said Weeden of the team at the beginning of April. “I told all the coaches — especially Coach Glass — that these guys look different than when I was a sophomore or a freshman.“We had some good looking athletes but especially D-line and some of these receivers. I’d be the shortest guy in the quarterback room. Guys look good. Playing fast, which I like to see.”Weeden was particularly enthralled with the Mason Rudolph-James Washington twosome because of how it reminded him of himself and No. 81.“I’m sure they’re going to break every record we ever set, and I hope they do,” said Weeden. “I hope they do. I’m excited for Mason more than any of them.”Yes, this is probably true. Rudolph probably will end up with all the career QB records. Game 5: vs. Kansas StateAnalysis: I’m sure Chris Klieman will turn out to be a fine college football coach at this level, but I’m dubious his decision to replace a legend will result in insta-success at K-State.Percentage chance of winning: 69%Game 6: at Texas TechAnalysis: I’m kind of in on Matt Wells and what he’s doing at Tech. And it obviously worked well for him at Utah State. I’m basing my odds on this being a night game with tortillas flying all over the field. Because it always feels like OSU gets Tech on the road at night.Percentage chance of winning: 52.37%Game 7: vs. BaylorAnalysis: Matt Rhule and Baylor got the better of OSU last year in part because of a meltdown on the part of OSU. I suspect OSU wants to turn the tables this year — and this is homecoming. Adding five percentage points for that advantage alone.Percentage chance of winning: 59%Game 8: at Iowa StateAnalysis: At Ames? *shudders*Percentage chance of winning: 31%Game 9: vs. TCUAnalysis: They say if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. But at Big 12 Media Days, Gary Patterson said TCU has six. Six! They’d be better off trying to score each time defensively and willingly punting away on first down offensively than trying to figure out that mangled quarterback mess.Percentage chance of winning: 67%Game 10: vs. KansasAnalysis: No game is a guaranteed win, but …. sorry, Les.Percentage chance of winning: 100%Game 11: at West VirginiaAnalysis: The moonshine is going to be flowing in Morgantown by 6 a.m. Unless this is an 8 a.m. kick, I fear this atmosphere is going to suck the juice out of OSU.Percentage chance of winning: 43%Game 12: vs. OklahomaAnalysis: I know this is on home turf and all, but OU-coached teams — whether it’s Bob or Lincoln — just have Gundy’s number. I’d actually feel better about this game if it were in Norman.Percentage chance of winning: 6% Mike Gundy has guided Oklahoma State to six 10-win seasons this decade, but reaching that double-digit mark is a tall task that in many cases is boosted by a bowl win (save for 2011 — duh — and 2010).Can he get OSU back into that fabled territory it often grazed in the not-so-distant past in 2019? Let’s take a game-by-game look at the regular season and find out. I’ll handicap each game with my own, very unscientific analysis and percentages.Game 1: at Oregon StateAnalysis: One of these OSUs stinks, and it’s not the one that hails from Oklahoma.Percentage chance of winning: 98%Game 2: vs. McNeese StateAnalysis: The first suggestion when I type in “McNeese State” into google, by google, is an autofill that asks: “Is McNeese State a Division 1 school?” That tells me just about everything I need to know here.Percentage chance of winning: 97.9%Game 3: at TulsaAnalysis: TU has a combined five wins over the last two seasons. In the American Athletic Conference.Percentage chance of winning: 84.6%Game 4: at TexasAnalysis: OSU has won five-straight in Austin. That is not a typo. As good as Texas is going to be this year (or should I say: as much hype as Texas has earned, the most predictable tradition in college football), I feel like that’s more than just luck. Gundy loves kicking some Texas behind and leaving the state with a W. Still yet, UT has home-field and a better team on paper. Giving them the slight edge, but won’t be shocked if OSU carries home the W.Percentage chance of winning: 49% While you’re here, we’d like you to consider subscribing to Pistols Firing and becoming a PFB+ member.
