first_imgAston Villa manager Tim Sherwood says his side ‘don’t ever want to see the bottom-three again’, after their derby win over West Brom lifted the Villans three points clear of the relegation zone.Christian Benteke scored an injury-time penalty to seal a vital victory for the struggling side, their first in 13 Premier League games, after Baggies star Saido Berahino cancelled out Gabriel Agbonlahor’s opener. It was also the first points for Sherwood since taking over from axed boss Paul Lambert in February, and the new coach insists his side are ‘alive and kicking’ for their fight for top flight safety.“It’s a huge three points,” said the boss. “Psychologically, we’re out of the bottom-three, for now, and we don’t ever want to see it again.“We can bounce into our next games, which are winnable, and we’re alive and kicking now.”Sherwood also hailed the Villa Park faithful, who were in fine voice throughout the derby clash, and insists the team will need their support for the rest of the season as they look to climb even further away from the drop.“It’s been a tough time and I don’t think we got what we deserved in the first couple of games since I’ve been in charge,” he added.“When that happens the pressure rises and temperature heats up for everyone, for myself and the players, but the fans helped us today, they were magnificent.“We set the tone of the game and we got the crowd on our side because they saw we were on the front foot, we dictated the football match.“I thought we were in full control in the first-half and we should really have gone further ahead, but Tony Pulis’ sides are very stubborn and invariably it was a set-piece they score from.“But we stuck at it, there was a lot of bravery from the team tonight, and we got a little bit of luck at the end.“The boys want to give credit to the fans, they were fantastic tonight and we’re going to need them between now and the end of the season.”last_img
